Bhuabneswar: As the capital prepares to celebrate Christmas and usher in the New Year, the Commissionerate Police has rolled out an elaborate security plan to ensure peaceful festivities across Bhubaneswar. Twin City Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datta Singh on Monday announced the deployment of an additional 15 platoons of police personnel to maintain law and order, manage crowds, and regulate traffic during the festive period, especially on New Year’s Eve ‘Zero Night’.
Police station in-charges have been directed to keep strict vigil in their respective jurisdictions, with special focus on crowded areas, churches, hotels, pubs and public gathering points. The police will intensify checks against drunk driving, setting up multiple checkpoints across the city. Authorities have warned that violators will face strict legal action.
To enhance women’s safety, High Efficiency Response (HER) teams will be deployed in sensitive and high-footfall zones. Continuous CCTV surveillance will be in place to enable real-time monitoring and quick response to any untoward incident.
The Commissionerate Police has granted permission for Zero Night celebrations at select hotels and a limited number of open venues, subject to compliance with prescribed norms and mandatory fire safety clearances. Entry and exit points at bars and pubs will be closely monitored to avoid overcrowding and ensure smooth movement of patrons.
Meanwhile, discussions are underway with the Excise Department regarding bar operating hours during the festive season. Officials said detailed guidelines are expected to be issued shortly.
The police have appealed to citizens to celebrate responsibly, follow traffic and safety rules, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and joyous festive season for all.
