Bhubaneswar: Assistant Commandant Simran Bala of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is set to create history at the Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2026, by becoming the first woman officer to lead an all-male CRPF contingent on Kartavya Path.
At 26 years of age, Bala will command a contingent of over 140 male personnel during the national parade, marking a significant milestone for India’s largest paramilitary force. Her selection follows a series of rigorous rehearsals, during which she was chosen based on performance, discipline, and leadership capabilities, officials said.
Simran Bala hails from Nowshera in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, a region close to the Line of Control. Her background and training have been shaped by challenging conditions, contributing to her professional journey in the force. Senior CRPF officers noted that her appointment reflects the organisation’s emphasis on merit-based leadership.
The development is being seen as a landmark moment for gender representation in uniformed services, particularly within central armed police forces, where women officers are increasingly taking on operational and command roles.
Bala will lead the contingent past India Gate during the ceremonial parade, which is the centrepiece of India’s Republic Day celebrations, showcasing the country’s military and paramilitary strength as well as its commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity.
