India to Host First-Ever Global Big Cat Summit in 2026

Bhubaneswar: India is set to host the first-ever Global Big Cat Summit in 2026, bringing together representatives from 95 countries to strengthen international cooperation on wildlife conservation.

The summit will focus on the protection of big cat species, conservation of their natural habitats, and enhanced global collaboration to combat poaching and illegal wildlife trade. It aims to create a unified international framework for the long-term survival of iconic species such as tigers, lions, leopards, cheetahs, jaguars, and snow leopards.

Officials said the initiative underscores India’s growing leadership in environmental diplomacy and biodiversity protection, building on its global reputation in wildlife conservation, particularly through successful programs like Project Tiger and recent big cat restoration efforts.

The Global Big Cat Summit is expected to serve as a platform for policy dialogue, scientific collaboration, and funding partnerships, positioning conservation as a shared global responsibility.
