Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched the second phase of its luxury caravan tourism initiative, aiming to offer travelers premium, hotel-like comfort on wheels while promoting experiential and destination-based tourism across the state.
The new phase was flagged off from the Dhauli hills, with three luxury caravans introduced into service. Each caravan is equipped with modern amenities including comfortable beds, a kitchenette, washrooms, seating areas, and climate control, combining adventure travel with upscale comfort.
The caravan service will operate across nine major destinations, including Hirakud, Similipal, Chilika, Konark, Bhitarkanika, Satkosia, Rayagada, Gopalpur, and Puri, offering curated travel experiences for both domestic and international tourists. The initiative is particularly aimed at young travelers, nature enthusiasts, and experiential tourists seeking flexible yet comfortable travel options.
Officials said the project has been designed with a strong focus on safety, sustainability, and responsible tourism, aligning with Odisha’s broader push for eco-tourism, heritage circuits, and community-based tourism models. The caravans are expected to complement existing eco-retreats and tourism infrastructure rather than replace them.
Encouraged by positive response to the pilot phase, the state plans to expand caravan tourism to additional destinations in the coming months, positioning Odisha as a key player in India’s growing luxury road-tourism segment.
