Bhubaneswar: National Institute of Technology Rourkela has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 186th position among 929 universities in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2026.
The institute has improved its standing compared to the previous year and emerged as the 8th highest-ranked Indian institution in the list. Notably, it is the top-ranked National Institute of Technology (NIT) in India and the only NIT to feature within the top 200 universities in Asia.
The rankings are based on 18 performance indicators covering key areas such as teaching quality, research output, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. The achievement reflects NIT Rourkela’s consistent progress in academic excellence, research contributions, and global engagement.
The recognition further strengthens the institute’s reputation as a leading centre for higher education and innovation in India.
