‘Karuppu’ builds massive buzz ahead of release as Suriya returns in dual role

Bhubaneswar: Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji in his action directorial debut, has generated strong anticipation ahead of its release, with advance bookings witnessing a sharp rise across several markets.

The film features Suriya in a dual role as lawyer Saravanan and the possessed deity Karuppuswamy, with the narrative centred on the fight against injustice faced by marginalised communities. Trisha Krishnan plays the female lead, Preethi, while the ensemble cast also includes Yogi Babu and several prominent actors.

Promotional material released so far has highlighted Suriya’s rugged rural avatar, featuring mass-action visuals with sickles and sticks, drawing strong reactions from fans online. Production house Dream Warrior Pictures has promoted the film with the tagline “GOD MODE activated,” further amplifying excitement around the project.

Industry trackers indicate that the film is set for an extensive theatrical rollout across Tamil Nadu, with screens reportedly reaching record numbers in several regions. Overseas premieres, including in Canada, are scheduled to begin tomorrow, while the official trailer is expected to release later today following UK certification clearance.

Fans on social media have widely praised Suriya’s intense makeover and rural action look, with many describing it as his strongest screen appearance since Anjaan. Trade analysts believe the film could benefit from a relatively open summer release window and strong pre-release momentum.
