Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport has been renamed as Comprehensive Region Urban Transport as part of Odisha’s broader plan to modernise and expand public transportation services across the state.
Officials stated that the renaming reflects an expanded vision aimed at developing integrated and sustainable urban mobility systems beyond the capital region.
Under the initiative, the Ama Bus service will be extended to additional towns including Baripada, Angul, Jharsuguda and Balasore. Authorities also confirmed that the bus fleet will gradually transition entirely to electric vehicles as part of the state’s clean mobility strategy.
Major urban centres including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Berhampur are expected to receive a combined fleet of 200 electric buses to improve urban connectivity and strengthen environmentally sustainable public transport infrastructure.
Officials said the move is intended to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower urban emissions and provide more efficient and affordable transportation services for commuters across Odisha.
The expansion of electric bus services is also being linked to the state government’s larger focus on green mobility, energy-efficient infrastructure and modern urban transport systems.
