BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Police have stepped up surveillance and verification measures in border districts and coastal areas following a major crackdown on suspected illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators in neighbouring West Bengal.
Authorities have placed several districts on high alert amid concerns that individuals leaving West Bengal during the ongoing enforcement drive could attempt to enter and settle in parts of Odisha.
In Mayurbhanj district, police have established tactical check posts along the Chakshuliapada route, a key transport corridor connecting the region with Kolkata through Gopiballavpur, Medinipur and Kharagpur. Officials said round-the-clock highway patrolling and intensified monitoring have been introduced across villages under the jurisdiction of Shuliapada, Morada, Chandua and Jharpokharia police stations.
Security agencies have also activated enhanced surveillance grids in border areas of Balasore district to regulate movement and verify the identity of suspicious persons entering the state.
Police sources said the intensified drive includes document verification, tenant verification, monitoring of temporary settlements and increased intelligence gathering in vulnerable locations. Coastal districts are also maintaining heightened vigilance as part of broader security measures.
Officials stated that the objective of the operation is to identify unauthorized entrants, strengthen border security and ensure that all residents possess valid documentation in accordance with legal requirements.
The heightened surveillance is part of a coordinated effort involving district police units and intelligence agencies to prevent illegal infiltration and maintain law and order in border and coastal regions of the state.
