Bhubaneswar: Tribal students in Odisha are set to gain greater exposure to cutting-edge science and technology following the inauguration of advanced Space Labs in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) across the country.
President Droupadi Murmu virtually inaugurated Space Labs in 75 EMRSs nationwide, including 13 schools in Odisha, as part of an initiative aimed at promoting scientific temper and technological innovation among tribal students.
The newly established laboratories are designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities in fields such as space science, astronomy, robotics, and emerging technologies. Through interactive experiments and practical applications, students will be able to explore scientific concepts beyond conventional classroom teaching.
Officials said the initiative seeks to nurture curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and innovation among students from tribal communities. The Space Labs are expected to create an engaging learning environment that encourages young minds to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and research.
Eklavya Model Residential Schools were established to provide quality education to tribal students, particularly in remote and underserved regions. The addition of advanced Space Labs is seen as a significant step toward bridging the technological and educational gap between rural and urban institutions.
Education experts believe that early exposure to scientific tools and modern technologies can help students develop confidence in pursuing higher studies and professional opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines.
The initiative aligns with the broader objective of empowering tribal youth through quality education and equipping them with the skills needed to participate in India’s growing scientific and technological ecosystem.
Officials expressed hope that the Space Labs will inspire a new generation of innovators, researchers, and scientists from tribal communities, contributing to both individual growth and national development.
