Bhubaneswar Poised to Emerge as the “Bengaluru of the East” Amid Rapid IT and Semiconductor Growth

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar is fast transforming into one of India’s most promising technology hubs, with industry leaders and policymakers projecting the city as a future mega IT metropolis comparable to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The capital city’s expanding digital infrastructure, booming startup ecosystem, and increasing semiconductor-related investments are reshaping Odisha’s economic landscape.

Officials report that Odisha recorded IT exports worth ₹3,300 crore last year, largely driven by Bhubaneswar’s Infocity and major centres housing global IT giants such as TCS, Deloitte, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and more than 300 IT companies operating from the city. With robust export volumes and diverse service components, Bhubaneswar has emerged as one of the strongest IT export bases in Eastern India.

At the heart of this transformation is a rapidly strengthening startup and innovation ecosystem. The Innovation Hub of Odisha has enabled a steady flow of capital funding, global corporate mentorship, and incubation support for emerging enterprises. Startups in Bhubaneswar are now active across cutting-edge domains including hardware manufacturing, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), fab labs, internet technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and electronic design.

In a major infrastructural boost, a 34-storey IT tower has come up in Satyanagar, where more than 800 IT professionals are set to work, signalling Bhubaneswar’s shift toward high-density tech infrastructure. Simultaneously, plans for a Twin City IT hub — spanning Bhubaneswar and Cuttack — are underway, with expected expansion along the Puri–Cuttack corridor. Satellite townships are also being planned to support the growing tech-driven workforce.

The semiconductor and AI electronics sector is witnessing unprecedented interest, with global giants and emerging startups keen to invest in the region. At the recent Kame in India – Odisha Conclave, it was highlighted that ₹16 lakh crore has been earmarked for long-term development in IT, electronics, and startup sectors across the state.

With its growing tech parks, strong talent pool, strategic infrastructure, and expanding innovation hubs, Bhubaneswar is positioning itself as a next-generation tech powerhouse — one that stakeholders believe could soon be recognised as the “Bengaluru of the East.”
