Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced stringent penalties for sanitation agencies to enforce timely waste clearance and improve urban cleanliness.
Under the new directive, agencies will be fined ₹3,000 per instance per ward if waste is not cleared from streets by 9 am. Authorities have mandated that all garbage heaps must be lifted by the stipulated time and collected using designated colour-coded bags. Additional fines will be imposed for failure to comply with segregation and collection norms.
The civic body has also introduced heavier penalties for serious violations. Unauthorized waste disposal will attract a fine of ₹50,000, while door-to-door waste lifting operations conducted without official permission will invite a penalty of ₹1 lakh.
Officials said the measures are aimed at strengthening accountability among sanitation contractors and ensuring adherence to solid waste management guidelines. The move forms part of BMC’s broader strategy to enhance hygiene standards and maintain cleaner public spaces across the city.
