Bhubaneswar: Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi has urged the Odisha government to introduce ‘Tithi Bhojan’ and observe Poshan Diwas across anganwadi centres to reinforce ongoing efforts to combat childhood malnutrition.
The recommendation was made during a review meeting of schemes under the Women and Child Development Department, chaired by Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida.
‘Tithi Bhojan’ is a community-driven initiative in which individuals voluntarily contribute nutritious food items — such as millets, fruits, or traditional sweets — on special occasions including birthdays and festivals. The model aims to supplement regular meals provided at anganwadi centres while promoting community participation and awareness about child nutrition and hygiene.
The Union Minister stressed that sustained collaboration between citizens and government institutions can significantly accelerate progress toward eliminating malnutrition. She highlighted the importance of local engagement in strengthening early childhood nutrition under existing central and state schemes.
Deputy Chief Minister Parida reiterated that women’s empowerment and ensuring a healthy future for children remain key priorities of the state government. She also announced that the fourth instalment of the Subhadra scheme will be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts on March 8, marking International Women’s Day.
Officials said the proposed measures are expected to enhance grassroots-level nutrition awareness and improve dietary diversity among children attending anganwadi centres across the state.
