Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: Odisha woke up to heartbreaking news on Monday night as celebrated playback singer Humane Sagar, one of the most influential voices of this generation, passed away at 9:08 PM at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. He was 34.
Doctors confirmed that the singer suffered acute-on-chronic liver failure leading to multiple organ dysfunction, despite being on intensive support since November 14. A specialised medical team monitored him round the clock, but his condition deteriorated beyond recovery.
Mortal Remains Taken to Cuttack
His body was taken to his Cuttack residence around midnight after completing medical and legal formalities. Hundreds of fans, co-artists and film personalities gathered through the night, many breaking down as they caught a final glimpse of the beloved singer.
STATE LEADERS REACT
Condolences poured in from across Odisha:
-
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi called it “a huge cultural loss for the state.”
-
Former CM Naveen Patnaik said Sagar’s voice “lives forever in the hearts of the people.”
Social media platforms were flooded with tributes as fans shared memories, favourite songs and emotional messages.
A Voice That Defined a Decade
Born in Titlagarh and winner of Voice of Odisha Season 2, Humane Sagar rose from humble beginnings to become an indispensable part of Odia cinema and album music. With more than 150 film songs and 200 album tracks, his impactful voice shaped a new era in Odia playback singing.
Family Raises Questions
Sagar’s mother, Shefali Suna, alleged that the singer was compelled to perform despite deteriorating health, demanding an inquiry into circumstances leading to his death. His manager dismissed the claims, stating Sagar was advised rest and was not under pressure.
AN IRREPLACEABLE LOSS
Humane Sagar leaves behind his wife, singer Shriya Mishra, and their daughter. His death has created a void that Odisha’s music industry says will be “impossible to fill.”
As grief echoes across the state, Odisha mourns not just an artist but a voice that carried emotion, pain, devotion and love — a voice now silenced forever.
