Bhubaneswar: The religious beliefs and traditions in India are more of a lifestyle and way of life. The supreme court has also defined Hinduism as a way of life not just a belief, and worship of gods and goddesses. The scriptures in Hinduism also direct about aligning the body, mind, soul, and polishing humanity as a whole. There are many means in the religious scriptures through stories, verse, etc to preach the people to lead a life of morality, discipline and good deeds. Culturally and philosophically these ways of life are extremely beneficial for disciplining a person from both inside and outside.
Practices like fasting, yoga, a particular type of food habits, etc help to build one’s mind and body so aligned, sense organs become very much activated that one can feel the smell of water, sound of micro minute noise nature creates, and so on. The capabilities of our sense organs to absorb and respond multiplies or so to say manifolds. It impacts the ability to understand, analyse and decision making power in a positive way. Regular practice of these habits can surprise you with its drastic change within yourself.
These practices are very much associated with scientific processes which bring changes in our mind and body. If anyone follows any practice it should be like a devotion and discipline for that person. The history and mythology of our nation is such that it attracts the people to adopt the practices for bringing transformations in them.
For example, during monsoons the digestive system slows down so there is a traditional practice in India of eating one meal a day at that time to maintain balance between the anatomy and the spiritual mind. Then during Navratri festival ( the nine days of worshipping goddess Durga) most people in India keep fast on one meal a day practice. Likewise there are various festivals and practices which are created, mentioned in scriptures and practiced religiously having a scientific backing.
Amid the changing lifestyle and rapid pace of life it is important to maintain a healthy routine. The inclination towards yoga, healthy diet, nutrition, spirituality, exercise and a disciplined lifestyle is increasing in the life of people with time. From the young to the elderly, everybody prefers to adopt the habit of regularly working out in the gym, morning walk, yoga etc. which will lead to a happy, healthy and beautiful life. At the same time, physical, mental health is being given equal importance. Some people do yoga and exercise to prevent and cure their health issues, unhealthy lifestyle with the advice of the doctors as well. Whatever the source may be for this change it is a welcome change considering today’s super mobilised lifestyles.
