Bhubaneswar: As winter sets in, India’s most celebrated season — the wedding season — is back in full swing. Over the next three months, the country is expected to witness nearly 46 lakh weddings, driving a massive ₹6.5 lakh crore boost to the economy, according to estimates from industry associations.
From luxury hotels to small banquet halls, bookings are running at full capacity. Jewelers, caterers, designers, photographers, florists, and event planners are reporting record demand, with many services reserved months in advance. The sector is expected to create lakhs of temporary jobs and significantly contribute to India’s third-quarter GDP growth.
Industry experts say this surge reflects both post-pandemic confidence and rising disposable income among urban and semi-urban households. Cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad are witnessing a flurry of big-ticket weddings, while smaller towns too are seeing unprecedented spending.
According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the ongoing wedding boom could inject one of the largest single-season boosts to domestic trade, tourism, and manufacturing in recent years.
Economists suggest that while the season’s glitter fuels short-term consumption, it also highlights the growing strength of India’s domestic demand-driven economy, turning weddings into both a social and financial celebration.
