Jharsuguda Tops Odisha with 89.5% Conviction Rate in 2025

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that Jharsuguda district recorded the highest conviction rate in the state in 2025 at 89.5 per cent. In contrast, Kendrapada district reported the lowest conviction rate at 3.1 per cent.

According to official data shared by the Chief Minister, several other districts — including Angul, Berhampur, Ganjam, Sambalpur, and the CID-CB — also achieved conviction rates exceeding 50 per cent. Meanwhile, conviction rates in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack police jurisdictions hovered around 40 per cent.

The improved performance in several districts has been attributed to a series of systemic reforms. These include stricter supervision of investigations, greater reliance on forensic evidence in line with the new criminal laws, strengthening of prosecution mechanisms, infrastructure upgrades, and the establishment of fast-track courts.

Officials said the focus on scientific investigation methods and time-bound trial processes has contributed significantly to improving conviction outcomes across the state. The government has indicated that districts with lower conviction rates will receive targeted administrative and legal support to enhance performance.
