OCL India Ltd. presents “Prativa Samman Award – 2018”

Cuttack, 17th September, 2018: Kapilas Cement, a unit of OCL India Ltd., the flagship company of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. felicitated 56 meritorious students of Class 10th and 12th standards of 17 periphery schools and colleges with the “Prativa Samman Award- 2018”. The students hailed from the 9 Panchayats of Cuttack and Jajpur Districts. Not limiting the awards to only commendable performances by students, OCL India Ltd. also conferred awards to 8 high achievers in the field of education, music, arts, social service, environment, bravery and sports. The award ceremony took place in the august presence of eminent personalities, PRI members, teachers & guardians. The commemoration was graced by distinguished Chief Guest, Dr. Ommkarnath Mohanty, an eminent educationist and First Vice Chancellor Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).

The students were presented with a certificate and memento to appreciate their hard work along with cash reward of INR 2500 – 5000 was presented to the students to venerate their achievements at a grand ceremony held at Multipurpose Hall, Kapilas Cement Manufacturing Works (KCMW) at Tangi in Cuttack. Students were presented with Maanpatra as well as 8 eminent personalities from the locality having immense contribution in different field including Dr. Biswajeet Mohanty, noted Environmentalist.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Manoranjan Sahoo, Deputy Executive Director, OCL India Ltd., said, “We at OCL India believe that education and knowledge are primary steps towards attaining freedom of thought helping them to develop creativity and courage to face life’s challenges. With the Prativa Samman Award we pay our humble tribute to the hard work of the students and those personalities who excelled in extracurricular along with social and environmental activities. They will be the pillars of the society tomorrow and as a responsible corporate citizen we would like have a small contribution in their lives.”  

Mr. Sahoo, spoke at length about the initiatives being undertaken by Kapilas Cement Works plant in the areas of its Corporate Social Responsibility and environmental sustainability, which has been only possible with the support of the people of the area at large. He also briefly touched upon the future Expansion plans of the plant in increasing its cement capacity as well as shifting more towards renewable energy.

Kabita Sahoo, President, Ladies Club, KCMW highlighted the areas that children should inculcate along with their knowledge and value system from early schooling life, that would hold them in a good stead later in the society. She also highlighted the ongoing activities being done in Old Age Home and Orphanage and future plans on women empowerment by imparting skills on innovative livelihood projects being taken up.

Ex- Vice Chancellor, BPUT, Dr. Ommkarnath Mohanty gave an inspirational and motivational address recounting his life’s experience. He urged that we must accept and be prepared to face the challenges in different stages of our student lives and keep working on the solutions. He appreciated the various noble deeds being undertaken by OCL to serve the society and its endeavour to promote budding talents to improve them to scale greater heights.
