Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Monday apprehended Sri Ashok Kumar Nayak, a Forester of Gulumi Section under Muribahal Range in Bolangir district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a farmer.
According to Vigilance officials, the bribe was demanded to grant permission for the transportation of timber, including one teak and one sal tree, which had been cut a few days earlier from the farmer’s own land.
Following the arrest, Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station Case No. 01 dated January 5, 2026, has been registered against Nayak under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
Odisha Vigilance officials reiterated that strict action will continue against public servants indulging in corrupt practices.
