PM JAN DHAN YOJANA CROSSES 59 CRORE ACCOUNTS, DEPOSITS SURGE 20-FOLD

Bhubaneswar: The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has emerged as a cornerstone of India’s financial inclusion drive since its launch in 2014, significantly expanding access to formal banking and other financial services for underserved communities.

According to the latest figures, the number of PMJDY accounts has increased from 14.72 crore in 2015 to 59.09 crore as of August 19, 2026—a nearly four-fold increase in 12 years.

Women have been among the major beneficiaries of the scheme, with 32.92 crore female beneficiaries holding PMJDY accounts.

The scheme has also witnessed a substantial rise in deposits. PMJDY deposits increased from ₹15,670 crore in March 2015 to ₹3,16,514 crore as of August 19, 2026, representing an approximately 20-fold increase.

The growth reflects the expanding participation of previously underserved and unbanked sections of the population in India’s formal financial system.

Beyond basic banking access, PMJDY has helped widen the reach of credit, insurance, pension services and digital payments, strengthening the country’s broader financial inclusion ecosystem.
