Bhubaneswar: Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has come out in support of Ranbir Kapoor’s casting as Lord Rama in filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited cinematic adaptation of the Ramayana. Calling the criticism surrounding the film’s casting “unfair,” Sadhguru said that audiences should appreciate the intent and artistry rather than judge actors by their personal lives or appearances.
“Judging actors for the roles they play is neither fair nor intelligent. An actor’s job is to embody a character with sincerity — not to be that person in real life,”
Sadhguru remarked during a recent interaction.
He also praised Kannada superstar Yash, who plays Ravana in the film, calling him a “handsome and powerful man” well-suited for the complex role.
A Modern Retelling with a Stellar Cast
Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Ramayana has been one of the most discussed projects in Indian cinema, bringing together a grand cast and massive production scale. Ranbir Kapoor stars as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Devi Sita, and Yash as Ravana, in what is expected to be a visually stunning and emotionally layered retelling of the epic.
While the film has generated huge anticipation, it has also sparked debate — with sections of the audience questioning whether certain casting choices do justice to the revered mythological characters.
However, Sadhguru’s endorsement has added a fresh perspective to the conversation, urging fans to separate performance from personal perception.
“Art must be appreciated as art,” Sadhguru added, “not filtered through our prejudices.”
The film, currently in advanced production stages, is slated for a 2026 release and is expected to set new benchmarks in mythological storytelling on screen.
