National: There is a need to understand the emotional quotient and depth of a person to make good cinema and translate them onto the screen. The audiences and the demand of the audience are very very crucial. If it is aligned in the right manner that cinema evolves, the product turns out well, states Pareeniti Chopra. In a recent interview Bollywood actor Pareeniti Chopra spoke on nepotism, favoritism, groups/camps and struggle for outsiders in the industry. The actor was last featured in the movie Amar Singh Chamkila alongside Diljit Dosanj. The movie has been directed by Imtiaz Ali. The movie has got critical acclaim for its performance and direction.
Nepotism is such that someone who has some association in the industry gets the threshold easily, but post that the journey remains individual. The audience will judge every actor the same way irrespective of their background and family connections. The challenge for a star kid begins after his/ her first chance because he/ she is always compared with the original version. So nepotism is about getting that easy opportunity but later it is not easy to remain relevant without having a good talent.
If someone is a complete outsider, then the challenge is rigorous, and tough to survive. Nepotism may or may not be real, but it can be debated, that favoritism is real in Bollywood. The work opportunities are created at parties, lunches, dinners, relationships, family circles etc. If one is not part of these gatherings or groups you will be losing out on this opportunity. Nothing works anonymously in the film industry. In today’s time, one has to be talented at the same time has to have a great PR game to proceed in career.
Many extremely talented actors have a dearth of work opportunities because they are in groups, circles parties or relationships of favoritism. All those talented actors should get access to avail their due. The real talents must be appreciated. The disconnect between the industry camps and the people who come from outside and have a good source of talent is very noteworthy. The people who come from outside are from different backgrounds, life history, thinking, aspirations and struggles. On many levels, the situation and mindset don’t match. Superficial glamour must be overlooked over talent in the film industry. But the blessing is the audience so distinctively wants every kind of content with equal enthusiasm and interest.
