Bhubaneswar: The vegetables are going beyond the reach of the common mass because of the sky high price it touches in the current times. Maximum vegetables are touching the limit of hundred rupees, which is becoming really difficult for the people to manage decent vegetarian meals. As it is the month of Kartik which is considered as the holy month in the Hindu religious belief, most of the households chose to consume pure vegetarian food. Taking this as an advantage, the market has hiked the vegetable prices at its highest peak. Currently this is the utmost painstaking issue the common people is going through.
The assembly election 2024 is one of the other factors to be blamed for the excessive market price of the vegetables. The election timings of this time, the extreme heat wave condition in the over stretched summer and the super active m, prolonged monsoon have together been the added factors in the excessive rise of vegetable prices. The farmers and market experts comment that due to the timing of the assembly election, most of the farming activities were postponed as the people were involved in local or regional electoral politics. The cropping of the vegetables were delayed so the production came to the market late.
The extreme heat wave and monsoon also has damaged the agriculture subsequently, that already has been started late because of the election. So the big share of blaming goes to the head of election as it kept the farmers away from the field for a substantial time period. Though the yielding percentage is comparatively less this year the vegetables are skyrocketing in terms of the price.
In Cuttack and Bhubaneswar the maximum varieties of vegetables have crossed the Rs 80 per kg. In Ganjam and Sambalpur the price is remaining between Rs 60 to 80 per kg whereas it has exceeded Rs 80 in Mayurbhanj and Balasore.
