Bhubaneswar: The WAVES Summit, a major was held in Mumbai on 2 May. WAVES is an acronym which stands for World Audio Visual and Entertainment Submit. This the first ever edition hosted by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Government of India. This submit was conducted for three days from 2-4 May. Participants from about 75 countries had joined in this submit.
This submit was assembled with multiple sessions and master classes. It brought together people from old and new media, actors, content creators, news media persons, musicians and technicians. The main objective of this submit is to boost the Indian media and entertainment industry profile, to turn India a global hub for content creation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event on 2 May. He addressed the program by inviting the investors across the world to India and invest on Indian stories, people’s
culture, as this the right time for spreading the entertainment and creativity of India to boom.
The highlight was ‘ the Orange Economy’ which, according to Narendra Modi is going to be a key pillar of the India’s GDP. The Orange Economy refers to the business linked to the creativity. So e also call it the creative economy. The colour orange is chosen because it stands for creativity. This economy includes a lot of other creative fields for example, theatre, films, dance, influencers, online
streamers, culinaries, cultural displays etc.
According to the UN report, it covers 3 percent of the global GDP and employs almost 30 million people across the world. In India the Orange Economy used to contribute 2.5 percent of the GDP before the pandemic. Presently it is about 1.5 percent. There is a great chance that it would surge up as creativity has got innumerable platforms now. Things like multiple social media apps, streaming platforms like YouTube will make the reach is infinite. The question is where does
India plant to focus in this race.
