Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Tuesday mourned the death of veteran Indian actor Govardhan Asrani, popularly known as Asrani, calling his demise a great loss to Indian cinema.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Majhi described the news as “deeply saddening” and lauded the actor’s unique humour and remarkable performances that entertained generations of audiences.
“The news of the demise of Shri Govardhan Asrani ji, the legendary artist of Indian cinema, is deeply saddening. His invaluable contributions through his unique humour and remarkable performances will remain etched forever in the history of Indian cinema and in the hearts of millions of admirers. May Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath bless his noble soul with eternal peace. Om Shanti,” Majhi posted on X.
Asrani, renowned for his comic timing and versatile roles across Hindi, Gujarati, and Odia films, was among the most loved actors in Indian cinema. His career spanned over five decades, featuring memorable roles in iconic films such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Amar Akbar Anthony.
Film fraternity members and fans across the country have expressed grief and shared tributes, remembering Asrani as a true legend whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of actors.
