Bhubaneswar: In a fresh move to curb vehicular pollution and strengthen enforcement of emission norms, Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena on Tuesday announced that vehicles with valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) will soon be required to display a green sticker.
The initiative is set to be rolled out in conjunction with the upcoming Road Safety Month and is aimed at improving air quality while ensuring greater compliance with environmental regulations. The green sticker system will help enforcement agencies quickly identify vehicles that meet prescribed pollution standards.
“Strict action will be taken against vehicles that do not have a valid pollution certificate,” Jena said, stressing that adherence to emission norms is essential for public health and environmental protection.
The minister also indicated that the state government is reviewing the steep fines introduced under the amended Motor Vehicles Act in 2019. “We will try to reduce the fines, which are currently higher compared to many other states,” he said, offering relief to vehicle owners while maintaining regulatory discipline.
According to the Transport Department, both new and old vehicles are being tested for emission compliance, and documentary proof is being verified during checks. Officials believe the green sticker system will make monitoring more efficient and transparent.
The move is part of a broader strategy by the state to tackle vehicular pollution, enhance road safety, and promote responsible driving practices across Odisha.
