Bhubaneswar: Founder of KIIT and KISS, Dr Achyuta Samanta, has been unanimously elected as the Chief Patron of the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) for a four-year term.
The decision was taken during the annual General Council meeting of the VFI in Varanasi, held on the sidelines of the 72nd Senior National Volleyball Championship, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
The VFI cited Dr Samanta’s long-standing and significant contributions to Indian sports, particularly volleyball, as the basis for his appointment. He previously served as VFI President from 2020 to 2024, a tenure marked by efforts to strengthen grassroots development and national-level competition.
Expressing gratitude, Dr Samanta thanked VFI President Virendra Kanwar, General Secretary Ramanand Chaudhury, and the federation’s members for their continued trust and support.
At the meeting, the General Council also approved KIIT, Bhubaneswar, as the host venue for the upcoming National Youth Volleyball Championship, further underlining the institution’s growing role in promoting sports development in the country.
