Bhubaneswar: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to streamline protocol darshan and reinforce discipline within the sacred temple premises, following a recent controversy linked to protocol arrangements.
Under the revised SOP, the entire responsibility for managing protocol guests will rest with the SJTA, aimed at ensuring better coordination, smoother darshan experiences and preventing disruptions to general devotees. Temple officials said the move is intended to bring clarity in roles and avoid overlaps that often lead to confusion during high-profile visits.
Addressing the recent incident, Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee acknowledged a coordination lapse during protocol darshan and issued an apology. He confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered, and assured that strict action will be taken against those found responsible. CCTV footage from the temple premises will be examined as part of the investigation.
In a parallel move to strengthen discipline, the SJTA has also tightened rules on mobile phone usage inside the temple. As per the new directive, only staff engaged in official or ritual-related duties will be permitted to carry or use mobile phones beyond designated areas. All others, including non-essential personnel, are strictly prohibited from using phones within the sacred premises.
Temple authorities said these measures are aimed at preserving the sanctity, safety and orderly functioning of the Shree Jagannath Temple, one of India’s most revered pilgrimage sites that attracts millions of devotees annually.
The SJTA reiterated its commitment to ensuring a respectful and seamless darshan experience for devotees while upholding the age-old traditions and discipline of the temple.
