GAIL Expands Clean Fuel Access in Bhubaneswar Under National PNG Drive 2.0

Bhubaneswar: State-owned energy major GAIL India Limited has expanded the reach of clean cooking fuel in Bhubaneswar by commissioning Domestic Piped Natural Gas (DPNG) connections at two major residential societies under the National PNG Drive 2.0 initiative.

The first phase of commissioning was carried out at Cosmopolis Residential Society in the Khandagiri area, where piped natural gas supply was extended to 835 flats. The inauguration was attended by GAIL officials and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, who highlighted the advantages of PNG, including enhanced safety, uninterrupted fuel supply, convenience, and cost efficiency compared to conventional cooking fuels.

Subsequently, DPNG connections were activated at Shreekhetra Residency Society in Aiginia, benefiting 144 households. During the event, Sarangi shared her personal experience as a PNG user and encouraged residents to adopt piped gas connections to support cleaner and more sustainable energy consumption.

Residents of both housing societies welcomed the initiative, noting that piped natural gas eliminates the inconvenience of LPG cylinder refills and storage, while also reducing household safety risks. The symbolic ignition of the gas supply marked a significant step in strengthening Bhubaneswar’s clean energy infrastructure.

GAIL officials said the expansion aligns with the national vision of transitioning to a gas-based economy by increasing access to safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly fuel options in urban areas. The company plans to continue extending PNG connectivity across the city in the coming phases of the programme.
