Bhubaneswar: A proposed inter-state economic corridor linking Ranchi, Rourkela and Raipur (RRR) is gaining momentum, with officials highlighting its potential to transform industrial connectivity and trade across Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
The corridor is anchored by two major road infrastructure projects — the under-construction Raipur–Ranchi–Dhanbad Expressway and the proposed 156-km Rourkela–Ranchi highway — designed to connect key industrial and mining hubs across eastern and central India.
The Raipur–Ranchi–Dhanbad Expressway, being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, is expected to link coal-rich and industrial centres in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, significantly reducing travel time and boosting freight movement. Meanwhile, the planned Rourkela–Ranchi highway will improve direct connectivity between western Odisha’s industrial clusters, including Rourkela, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur, and major industrial cities such as Jamshedpur and Bokaro in Jharkhand.
Officials from the Odisha Industries Department, speaking at the 25th CII Enterprise Odisha 2026 summit, said the corridor could unlock new development opportunities for western Odisha and attract investments from neighbouring states. The participation of business delegates from Raipur and Ranchi at the summit reflected growing interest in regional economic integration and cross-border industrial collaboration.
The proposed RRR corridor is seen as a strategic infrastructure initiative to strengthen supply chains, improve logistics efficiency and drive industrial growth across the eastern-central Indian region.
