Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has approved a significant salary hike for contractual AYUSH doctors working under the National Health Mission (NHM), Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Tuesday.
Under the revised structure, AYUSH doctors will receive monthly salary increments ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹40,000, depending on their years of service. The move is expected to benefit hundreds of contractual practitioners across the state.
Officials said the salary enhancement will entail an additional annual financial burden of around ₹1 crore on the state exchequer, but the government considers it a necessary step to acknowledge the doctors’ contributions and strengthen alternative healthcare services.
The decision is aimed at improving retention of AYUSH professionals, boosting morale, and expanding access to Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy services, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
The state government has been pushing to reinforce primary healthcare infrastructure, with AYUSH services seen as a key complementary component of Odisha’s public health delivery system.
