Odisha CM Flags Off 250 New Ambulances to Boost Emergency Healthcare Network

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday launched 250 new ambulances at Kalinga Stadium, marking the second phase of the state’s emergency medical transport expansion. With an investment of ₹111 crore, the government plans to deploy 428 new ambulances, strengthening rapid response services across the state.

Earlier, 150 ambulances were inducted in December 2025, taking the total emergency ambulance fleet to 866 vehicles statewide. In addition, 500 Janani Express ambulances are already operating to support pregnant women and sick children.

The Chief Minister said the initiative aims to reduce response time, improve patient survival rates, and enhance healthcare access, especially on block-to-district hospital routes. Under the Bimana Yojana, ambulance connectivity will also be extended to airstrips in Rourkela and Jeypore.

Currently, Odisha’s ambulance network handles over 5,000 patient transports daily, reinforcing the state’s emergency healthcare infrastructure.
