Bhubaneswar: In a significant step to expand access to quality teacher education, Odisha State Open University (OSOU) has collaborated with Jamia Millia Islamia to establish a BEd and MA (Education) Learning Support Centre at its Sambalpur campus.
Under the partnership, Jamia Millia Islamia has granted approval for OSOU to host the learning support centre, enabling students in Odisha to pursue BEd and MA (Education) programmes under Jamia’s academic framework and supervision. The initiative is expected to benefit aspiring teachers, particularly those from remote and underserved regions, by providing structured curriculum, expert guidance, and institutional support closer to home.
The collaboration comes at a time when OSOU is awaiting independent regulatory approval to offer BEd courses directly. Until then, the learning support centre will serve as a bridge to ensure continued access to teacher training programmes in the state.
Education experts view the move as a strategic boost to Odisha’s teacher education ecosystem, helping address the demand for qualified educators while strengthening academic collaboration between institutions.
