Bhubaneswar: Aparajita Sarangi has called on the Odisha government to revisit its recent decision on metro rail projects, terming the initiative crucial for the city’s future mobility needs.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Sarangi made a “humble request” to reconsider the state cabinet’s decision taken on April 4 regarding the proposed metro rail project.
Emphasising the broader public interest, the BJP MP stated that not all government projects should be assessed purely on profitability. “Some projects are meant for welfare and public good,” she noted, underscoring that a metro system is essential for a rapidly growing urban centre like Bhubaneswar and its adjoining metropolitan region.
Sarangi reiterated her long-standing support for the metro project, recalling her earlier efforts, including writing to the former Chief Minister in 2022 and engaging with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to push for its implementation.
Highlighting the potential benefits, she said the metro rail would significantly improve daily commuting for students, working professionals, homemakers, and senior citizens, making travel more efficient and convenient.
The appeal comes amid ongoing discussions over urban infrastructure priorities in the state, with the metro rail project seen as a key component of Bhubaneswar’s long-term development plans.
