Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has unveiled plans to construct a T-bridge in Bhubaneswar while upgrading a crucial road stretch between Jaydev Vihar and CRP Square, aiming to ease growing traffic congestion in the city.
The road connecting Jaydev Vihar to CRP Square via Ekamra Kanan Botanical Gardens is being revamped, with a new parallel road passing through Salia Sahi integrated into the existing flyover network. Work on this parallel stretch is nearing completion and is expected to be operational by May 15, with construction targeted to conclude by the end of April.
Roundabout to Regulate Traffic Flow
To streamline vehicle movement, a roundabout will be developed at the junction where the 900-metre stretch connects. Authorities are simultaneously widening both sides of the road to support smoother traffic circulation. As part of the infrastructure upgrade, electric poles have been shifted and an Ama Bus stand along the route has been dismantled.
Odisha Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan stated that the initiative is focused on improving connectivity and reducing congestion in one of the city’s busiest corridors. He noted that the roundabout is expected to play a key role in traffic management.
Future Connectivity and Expansion
Looking ahead, the project includes plans to extend connectivity further, with a proposed road linking Nandankanan Zoological Park to KIIT via Raghunathpur Jali. The minister also indicated that a T-shaped flyover is part of the long-term vision, though the immediate priority is to make the current stretch functional through the rotary system.
“By May 15 the road will be made operational anyhow,” he said, adding that remaining construction work will be completed within this month.
The project is part of broader efforts to upgrade urban infrastructure and address traffic bottlenecks in the rapidly expanding state capital.
