Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has approved the construction of a new high-level bridge over the Kathajodi River to establish a more direct link between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
The project is aimed at easing traffic congestion on NH-16, a critical arterial route connecting the two cities. It is also expected to complement the proposed 8-laning of the corridor from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Nandankanan Zoological Park, improving overall traffic flow and reducing travel time.
The State Cabinet has approved a turnkey bid worth approximately ₹158.89 crore for the bridge construction. Officials have set a target timeline of 36 months for completion of the project.
Once operational, the new bridge is expected to significantly enhance urban mobility in the twin-city region and support future traffic demand driven by rapid urban expansion.
