Bhubaneswar: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced significant changes in the language scheme for Classes 9 and 10 starting from the 2026–27 academic session.
In a circular issued on May 15, 2026, the board stated that the revised structure has been aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
According to CBSE, the updated language framework is aimed at strengthening multilingual learning, improving flexibility in language education and promoting competency-based learning approaches in secondary education.
Officials said the revised scheme is part of broader educational reforms being implemented under NEP 2020 to modernise school curricula and enhance students’ linguistic and cognitive development.
The board is expected to issue detailed implementation guidelines and subject-specific instructions for affiliated schools regarding the new language structure in the coming months.
Education experts say the changes could significantly influence curriculum planning, language instruction and assessment methods for secondary school students across the country.
