Bhubaneswar: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration has set a new Guinness World Records milestone by unfurling the world’s largest underwater national flag at Radhanagar Beach.
The massive Tricolour, measuring approximately 60 by 40 metres, was deployed beneath the sea in a highly coordinated operation at Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island). The effort involved over 200 divers and multiple agencies, including the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Andaman and Nicobar Police, and the Forest Department.
Lieutenant Governor D K Joshi, Chief Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar, and Director General of Police H S Dhaliwal were present during the event.
At 10:35 am, Guinness adjudicator Rishi Nath officially confirmed the record and presented the certificate to the Lieutenant Governor.
Among the participants were three school students—Fateh Jahaan Singh (16), Lavanya Eira (15), and Ranvijay Singh (14)—who were the youngest divers in the operation.
Officials described the achievement as a testament to coordination, technical precision, and commitment, while also highlighting the islands’ growing profile as a hub for adventure tourism and marine activities.
The administration is set to attempt another record—the ‘Tallest Human Stack’—at the Lighthouse dive site on Swaraj Dweep.
