Bhubaneswar: Early weather projections indicate a possible low-pressure system forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal during the second week of May, with potential to intensify into a cyclonic storm.
According to the Global Forecast System (GFS), the system may develop between May 11 and 15. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not confirmed the formation or trajectory, cautioning that long-range forecasts remain uncertain and subject to change.
Cyclonic activity is common in the Bay of Bengal, particularly from April to December, with peak frequency typically beginning in May.
Amid these projections, the Government of Odisha has assured full preparedness. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari stated that the state is ready to respond to any potential natural calamity, with coordinated efforts across departments for rapid action.
Authorities are also continuing heatwave mitigation measures while closely monitoring evolving weather conditions, underscoring a dual focus on extreme weather preparedness.
