Bhubaneswar: In a unique initiative, the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police has started playing soft, soothing music at 32 major traffic intersections across Bhubaneswar to ease commuter stress, especially during long waits and ongoing heatwave conditions.
The system operates through Public Address Systems integrated with CCTV networks and is centrally controlled. Along with music, authorities are also using the platform to broadcast real-time traffic updates, road safety messages, and alerts to traffic violators.
Residents have largely welcomed the initiative, noting that it creates a calmer driving environment amid congestion and extreme weather. However, many have also pointed out that while such measures improve commuter experience, long-term infrastructure upgrades and traffic management solutions are essential to address the city’s growing congestion challenges.
Officials say the initiative reflects an effort to combine technology with behavioural interventions to improve urban mobility and public convenience.
