Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s capital has reported its first COVID-19 case of the year, with a 50-year-old man from the Baramunda area testing positive, according to reports.
The patient is currently undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of a hospital.
The development comes nearly a month after Odisha reported another COVID-19 case, when a 54-year-old woman from Ganjam district tested positive on July 22 and was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Health officials have urged people not to panic but to remain cautious and follow basic preventive measures. Hospitals have been instructed to maintain isolation facilities and promptly share information whenever COVID-19 cases are detected.
The state Health Department has also stepped up surveillance and deployed rapid response teams in districts bordering Andhra Pradesh following reports of COVID-19 cases in neighbouring areas.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and advised citizens to remain alert while continuing necessary precautionary measures.
