Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg on Monday reviewed the state’s preparedness following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts.
Garg said an upper-air cyclonic circulation has developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and is likely to lead to the formation of a low-pressure area during August 16–18.
According to the IMD forecast, four districts are likely to receive very heavy rainfall on the first day and have been placed under the red category, while several other districts fall under orange and yellow alerts.
The rainfall situation is expected to remain similar on the second day before gradually weakening, with conditions likely to improve by August 19.
The Chief Secretary expressed concern over the timing of the fresh weather system, as several parts of the state are still recovering from the previous flood and water has not receded fully in many areas.
She said the government has activated all necessary management measures. A video conference was held with District Collectors and senior officials of concerned departments, while field-level teams are assessing the situation and taking steps to provide assistance wherever required.
