Bhubaneswar: The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced key reforms introduced under its new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class XII examinations during a press briefing held on May 17, 2026.
The board stated that the technology-driven evaluation mechanism has been implemented to improve accuracy, transparency and efficiency in the assessment process for students across India.
As part of the reforms, CBSE has reduced the fees for obtaining scanned copies of answer books, verification of marks and re-evaluation of answers. Officials said the decision is aimed at making the post-result grievance and review process more affordable and accessible for students and parents.
According to the board, the On-Screen Marking system enables digital evaluation of answer scripts, helping minimise manual errors, speed up the checking process and ensure greater consistency in marking standards.
CBSE officials emphasised that the reforms are part of broader efforts to modernise examination administration and enhance student confidence in the evaluation system. The board believes the new process will strengthen fairness and operational efficiency while simplifying post-result procedures for lakhs of students appearing in Class XII examinations every year.
