Dense Fog Disrupts Normal Life Across Odisha; IMD Issues Alerts for 14 Districts

Bhubaneswar: Dense fog enveloped large parts of Odisha on Saturday, severely disrupting normal life and causing major inconvenience to commuters, as the Regional Meteorological Centre issued alerts for 14 districts across the state.

Visibility remained extremely poor until around 10 am, making road travel hazardous. Vehicles were seen moving at a snail’s pace on highways and city roads, while daily activities were delayed due to reduced visibility during the early morning hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that fog conditions are likely to persist over the next 24 hours and may continue to affect several districts for the next four days. People have been advised to exercise caution while travelling, particularly during early mornings and late nights.

An Orange Warning for dense fog has been issued for four districts — Khordha, Puri, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur — indicating a higher risk of significant disruption to transportation and daily life.

Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati and Sundargarh, where moderate to dense fog conditions are expected at isolated places.

Weather officials said such conditions are typical during the winter season due to high moisture levels and low temperatures, but urged motorists to use fog lights, reduce speed and avoid unnecessary travel during low-visibility periods.
