Bhubaneswar: Petrol and diesel prices across India have been increased for the second time within a week as global crude oil prices continue to surge amid the ongoing Iran conflict and instability in international energy markets.
State-run oil companies on Tuesday raised petrol and diesel prices by around 90 paise per litre, just three days after an earlier hike of ₹3 per litre announced on May 15.
According to industry data, petrol prices in New Delhi have increased to ₹98.64 per litre, while diesel prices have risen to ₹91.58 per litre. Similar hikes have been reported in major cities including Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
The back-to-back revisions come amid rising global crude oil prices linked to geopolitical tensions involving Iran and disruptions in international energy supply chains. Reports indicate that state-run oil marketing companies have been facing mounting financial pressure due to higher import costs and volatile crude markets.
Analysts warn that continued fuel price increases could have a wider inflationary impact by raising transportation, logistics and commodity costs across sectors. The rising fuel burden is also expected to affect household expenses and industrial operations if global oil prices remain elevated in the coming weeks.
