Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Ayush has announced that Kolkata will host the main national event for the International Day of Yoga 2026 (#IDY2026), with this year’s theme finalised as “Yoga for Healthy Aging.”

The announcement was made during the 25-day countdown programme to International Day of Yoga held at Khajuraho Group of Monuments, where thousands of participants performed the Common Yoga Protocol in a large-scale public session promoting wellness and holistic health.

During the event, the government also unveiled the Yoga Sangam Portal, Yoga Park Portal and a new official Yoga T-shirt as part of preparations for IDY 2026 and efforts to expand public participation in yoga activities across the country.

Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav said Khajuraho has the potential to emerge as a global centre for yoga and wellness tourism due to its cultural and spiritual significance.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said both yoga and Khajuraho represent integral symbols of India’s rich cultural heritage and civilisational identity.

Officials said the upcoming International Day of Yoga celebrations will focus on promoting healthy lifestyles, active aging and preventive healthcare through yoga practices, with nationwide programmes expected to be organised in schools, institutions, public spaces and wellness centres ahead of June 21, 2026.
