MSME Registrations Cross 8 Crore Mark; Credit Support Sees Strong Growth

Bhubaneswar: India’s MSME sector has witnessed robust growth, with over 20 lakh new enterprises registering on the Udyam Portal during February–March, taking the total number of registered units beyond 8 crore.

Addressing a briefing, Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner at the Ministry of MSME, highlighted sustained momentum in credit flow to the sector. Outstanding lending to MSMEs has crossed ₹36.7 lakh crore, with a strong quarterly growth of 23.5%.

In a significant policy push, the government has doubled the collateral-free lending limit for micro and small enterprises from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh, effective April 1, 2026, aimed at improving access to finance.

Credit guarantee support has also remained robust, with more than 5.27 lakh guarantees worth ₹92,000 crore extended during the two-month period.

On the liquidity front, the TReDS platform has recorded sharp growth in invoice discounting. Volumes have surged from ₹4,300 crore in 2022 to over ₹7 lakh crore currently, including ₹85,000 crore in February–March alone.

Officials said the measures reflect continued efforts to strengthen the MSME ecosystem, enhance credit accessibility, and support business expansion amid evolving economic conditions.
