Bhubaneswar: Amid rising global uncertainty linked to the ongoing tensions involving the United States and Iran in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to adopt fuel-saving measures and help conserve India’s foreign exchange reserves.
Addressing a public rally in Hyderabad, the Prime Minister said India does not possess large oil reserves and appealed to people to reduce unnecessary consumption of petrol and diesel during the current geopolitical situation.
He encouraged citizens to increasingly use public transport systems, metro rail services, carpooling and electric vehicles wherever feasible. PM Modi also advocated reviving work-from-home practices, video conferencing and online meetings to cut fuel consumption and reduce logistical costs.
In a major appeal aimed at conserving foreign exchange reserves, the Prime Minister urged people to avoid purchasing gold jewellery and postpone non-essential foreign travel, destination weddings and overseas vacations for at least one year.
Calling it a “test of patriotism,” he said supporting the country economically and collectively during periods of global supply chain disruptions and energy uncertainty was a national responsibility.
