Odisha Announces Free Education from KG to PG for Economically Weaker Students

Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards expanding educational access and promoting social equity, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that the state government will provide free education from kindergarten (KG) to postgraduate (PG) level for students belonging to economically weaker sections of society.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring that financial constraints do not become a barrier to education and that deserving students have access to quality learning opportunities throughout their academic journey.

Announcing the decision, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive development and the empowerment of disadvantaged communities through education. The scheme is expected to benefit a large number of students from economically vulnerable families, enabling them to pursue higher education without the burden of educational expenses.

The move aligns with the state’s broader vision of strengthening human capital, improving educational outcomes and creating equal opportunities for all sections of society. By supporting students from the primary level through postgraduate studies, the government aims to encourage higher enrolment, reduce dropout rates and enhance employability among youth.

The announcement has been welcomed as a significant social welfare measure that could help bridge educational disparities and contribute to long-term socio-economic development in Odisha.

With this initiative, Odisha joins the growing number of states focusing on education as a key driver of inclusive growth, social mobility and sustainable development.
