Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet has approved a series of significant proposals aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure, promoting industrial growth, supporting affordable housing and improving environmental sustainability across the state.
One of the key decisions is the construction of a Working Women’s Hostel at the Kalibeti Industrial Estate in Khordha. The project, estimated at Rs 210 crore, has received Cabinet approval for the tender process and is expected to provide safe and modern accommodation facilities for women employed in the industrial sector.
In another major initiative, the Cabinet approved a Rs 500-crore Waterfront Development Project aimed at revitalizing riverfronts and water bodies in urban areas. The project seeks to enhance urban aesthetics, improve environmental conditions and create public recreational spaces while promoting sustainable development around water resources.
To provide relief to economically weaker families, the Cabinet approved an exemption from stamp duty and registration fees for beneficiaries belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The measure is expected to reduce the financial burden on eligible beneficiaries and encourage greater access to affordable housing.
The Cabinet also cleared the establishment of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at the confluence of the Daya River and Gangua Canal. The project is aimed at improving wastewater management, reducing pollution and protecting the ecological health of the region’s water bodies.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022, reinforcing the state’s commitment to creating a more business-friendly environment. The revised policy is expected to enhance industrial competitiveness, attract investments and support economic growth through improved incentives and regulatory reforms.
The decisions reflect the state government’s focus on infrastructure development, environmental conservation, industrial expansion and social welfare, with an emphasis on creating sustainable and inclusive growth opportunities across Odisha.
