Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has significantly reduced penalties for violations related to Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) requirements, bringing relief to vehicle owners across the state.
Under the revised penalty structure, fines will now range from ₹1,000 to ₹6,000, depending on the type of vehicle and whether the violation is a first-time or repeat offence.
Previously, a penalty of ₹10,000 had been prescribed for PUCC violations since 2019.
The decision follows concerns raised by vehicle owners, transport associations and sections of the media over the earlier penalty amount and strict enforcement of PUCC norms.
Despite reducing the fines, the government has made it clear that enforcement of motor vehicle and road safety regulations will continue.
Vehicle owners have been advised to keep all mandatory documents, including valid PUCC and insurance, updated to avoid penalties and ensure compliance with applicable rules.
The revised penalty structure is expected to provide some relief to vehicle owners while maintaining the government’s focus on pollution control and road safety.
